Shrimp and the Environment

Safe for the environment

Ocean shrimp fishing and traditional shrimp farms wreak havoc on the environment.

Fishing depletes overall shrimp populations, and nets catch fish that are discarded as waste. Shrimp boats can take 350 gallons of diesel per night to run, and nets and pots get left behind or lost, littering the ocean.

Traditional shrimp farms are located in shallow waters that restrict natural water and sediment flow. Harvesting shrimp calls for draining these shallow waters, taking much of the nutrients with it, which depletes the natural habitat. Farms commonly overfeed, leading to huge amounts of waste, and disease moves quickly through the confined shrimp farm and can spread to other species.

Shrimp sold by Shrimp Station, harvested by NaturalShrimp, has a much smaller impact on the environment. Our processes do not deplete any natural resources, leave any waste, or use huge amounts of fuels. Our farms will always remain near our delivery points and our never-freeze process means you’ll never see huge tractor trailer trucks carrying our product.
